Hey, Easton Area Macaroni Kid families!
September 28 kicks off Macaroni Kid's annual MK-AOK (Acts of Kindness) week! We encourage you and your family to take part in this annual celebration of GOOD by committing small or large acts of kindness all week and posting about them using the hashtag #MKAOK to inspire others to do nice things for others.
There are plenty of ways you can bring joy to our community this week, but if you are looking for an easy, fun project your family can help out with, Easton Area Macaroni Kid is partnering with smARTivities Showcase to launch THE PLARN PROJECT, and you are invited to take part!
About THE PLARN PROJECT
Plarn is plastic yarn--made from recycled grocery bags to create useable items for the community. We will be creating and using PLARN all week to make sleeping mats for the homeless in our community. Here is how you can help make our MK-AOK project a success:
Acts of Kindness Plarn Project Details
- Drop off your used plastic grocery bags anytime this week at smARTivities Showcase, 60 Centre Square, Easton, PA.
- Come help us create sleeping mats on Tuesday, October 1, from 3-4; Wednesday, from 3-4; and/or Saturday, from 10-1 at smARTivities Showcase. Not only will you and your kids be doing something great for those in need, you will also learn how to crochet a basic chain stitch you can use to create your own PLARN projects!
- Share the word about THE PLARN PROJECT with your friends and neighbors. You can hashtag social media posts with #MKAOK #PLARNPROJECTEASTON to help get the word out so others will know how they can join in the fun.
smARTivities Showcase has generously offered the use of their AMAZING community arts space for PLARN workshops throughout the year, so even after MK-AOK week is over, we will be crafting reusable items to donate or take home each week! Be sure to check out the schedule on their website for updated PLARN workshop details. In addition to PLARN workshops, smARTivities Showcase offers tons of arts and crafting classes for every age group and skill level. They also sell art supplies and host gallery showings for our local artists. Be sure to support them by visiting their downtown store soon!
Here is a video that shows you what we'll be doing. If you can't make it to our group PLARN free workshops this week, feel free to create your own PLARN, and just drop it off at smARTivities Showcase, and we'll turn it into sleeping mats!
