Greetings, Macaroni Kid families!
I am on pins and needles awaiting THE EASTON BOOK FESTIVAL! In one week, over 220 authors will be presenting community events at 24 Easton venues--and it's ALL FREE to the public! I got involved in the EBF as a volunteer almost a year ago and serve as the marketing and communications committee chair. I can tell you that everyone involved in this festival has been working tirelessly for many months to make this amazing thing happen for our community. It's hard to believe it's almost here, and I hope you will all take advantage of the cultural and fun literary and arts offerings FOR ALL AGES.
We have SO MANY AWESOME things planned for you all! I have uploaded the individual and group events listings, so be sure to look through the events calendar for Oct.25-27th, and I will be sending you another email mid-week with ALL OF THE INFORMATION on what I am sure will become your FAVORITE new literary event--with any luck, it will be an annual happening. (Fingers crossed!) As of this week, I was told it has become the LARGEST (in terms of authors) literary festival in the Northeast. That's CRAZY! It's our FIRST ONE!
Share the EBF information with your friends and family, please. BRING YOUR FAMILY out to take part in the readings, panels, lectures, costume creation, workshops, parades, concerts, book expos, author signings, and more! There is truly something for EVERYONE--readers, writers, dreamers, fun-lovers, cos-play peeps, musicians, music lovers, poets, and...well...just everyone!
Check out the Easton Book Festival (and Easton Children's Book Festival) Facebook site, and hit the "like" button to let us know you're there. Find us on Twitter at @easton_book. We're on Instagram, too, so check out our author and book images!
One more thing--two, actually.
Easton Book Festival NEEDS VOLUNTEERS to help make this massive, multi-venue event go smoothly. High School kids can earn community volunteer credits, and everyone who volunteers gets a free, RAD Easton Book Festival t-hirt AND tons of goodwill and gratification. You can volunteer for three hours or less, and there are many ways to help out. Go here to find out more.
The SECOND THING: The Easton Book Festival is a completely free thing--for the public, not for the planners. We're (well, not me, of course) paying for authors' transportation, hotel rooms, speaking fees, and food and drinks at the fundraising banquet. We've booked authors all over the place, including many of the schools, to speak, sign books, and participate on panels without a fee. Book and Puppet has pre-ordered oodles of copies of each author's book to ensure everyone who wants a signed copy can purchase one. In short--this fabulous event will also be an expensive event to create, so the Easton Book Festival is grateful to sponsors and local donors for every contribution--small, or large. You can donate to the EBF here--or just get out there and buy books during the festival!
