Hispanic Heritage Month is celebrated nationally from September 15th - October 15th!
While Mac KID Easton always celebrates these beautiful cultures, this month is a wonderful time to highlight the endless positive ways Hispanic Americans have enriched the Easton Area, our nation, and world.
Mac KID Easton would love to highlight Hispanic-owned businesses in the Easton Area who are kid friendly/focused !! Please email rebeccatrock@macaronikid.com to highlight a business you love or own that we can honor! What's a kid friendly/focused business? Think about anything kids need, doctor, dentist, haircut/barber, clothes/shoes, activities, etc! We can't wait to celebrate our neighbors!!
Here are just a few of many incredible Hispanic Americans who have made a huge impact on our world. We had a great time at home talking with our kids about the amazing people listed below and many others as well!
Cesar Chavez - A Mexican American activist who fought for Civil Rights for Latinos in California and ultimately went on to be an integral part of the creation of the National Farm Workers Association (United Farm Workers Labor Union).
Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez - Born in New York to parents of Puerto Rican descent, Ms. Ocasio-Cortez worked hard and in a short time became a representative of New York in the U.S. House of Representatives. He also became an influential, leading voice for Hispanic Americans in politics. It was in June 2018 that she became the youngest person to be elected into the House of Representatives.
Roberto Clemente - Born in Puerto Rico, Mr. Clemente paved the way for Hispanic Americans in Major League Baseball. In 1960 he was the first Latin American and Caribbean to start in and win a Major League World Series.
Ellen Ochoa - Ms. Ochoa was the first Hispanic American (her grandparents immigrated from Mexico) woman and astronaut to travel to space.
Lin-Manuel Miranda - Born in New York City to Puerto Rican parents, Mr. Manuel Miranda is the writer of uber popular Broadway musicals In the Heights and Hamilton. Drawing from his upbringing in a Latin neighborhood and time spent visiting Puerto Rico, Mr. Manuel Miranda has brought the Latin culture and Spanish language to the stage in a wonderful way. He has won multiple Tony Awards for his work.
We hope to feature other incredible Hispanic and Latino/Latina Americans business owners in the Easton Area throughout the month and we hope you enjoy celebrating too! Please reach out for a business to be highlighted!
